SearchEureka.com is the result of several years of frustration dealing with the bloated internet presence of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. For a town of only 2500 people, we sure do have an abundance of websites, and it is not always easy to find what you are looking for. Obviously, the majority of websites dealing with Eureka Springs have to do with the tourism and real estate industry. There are, however, other history and personal sites that also deserve some attention. Have you ever tried to find your friends and neighbors on social networking sites like myspace and ended up clicking through pages of results listing any user that may have placed the word "Eureka" somewhere in their profile? Who has the time?
Google and other search engines like to pride themselves on ranking sites in order of relevance. Yet until quite recently the top listed website for searches on Eureka Springs was one that is owned and operated by a company in Florida! How's that for relevancy? In an effort to provide a one-stop directory for all things "Eureka" on the internet, I created this website. It is my hope that SearchEureka.com can serve as a quick and relevant FREE web reference with timely updates.
Site Additions
This website launched with approximately 600 links and it grows each day. I welcome site suggestions and updates from visitors, and will do my best to keep the directory fresh with valid URLs. When considering links to be added to the directory, my first question is if the site is local. There are lots of large websites with subpages on various cities that could be added to this directory, but I prefer to leave most of them out, unless they provide valuable information that cannot be found on a local site. I also tend to shy away from sites that charge a fee for inclusion, as I don't believe that they represent the best interest of free information on the internet.
Site Ratings and Reviews
One of the interesting features of this directory is that it provides users with the ability to rate and review websites. The rating system allows users to anonymously assign a rating on a scale of 1 to 5 hearts, with 5 being the best.
When reviewing personal sites or myspace pages, the review should be centered around the webpage itself, not the person behind it. In the case of websites representing actual businesses, the review may represent business practices or patron experiences. When dealing with historical or other non-business oriented websites, the review should be of the information presented - it's accuracy, design, ease-of-use, etc. All user reviews are moderated and anything that is downright mean and nasty will probably be rejected. If you have bad things to say about a business or website, please construct your review around specific experiences that you have had. It does no good to call names or say that a website "sucks" if you do not explain why. I do not mean for this directory to serve as a personal vendetta for small town feuds. Your use of this website and its rating and review system is subject to our terms of use.
